Signs You May Have an Ant Infestation:

  1. Exposed Food – Dropped food can attract pests if left unattended.
Stray Ants Around the House – Ants seen in unexpected places, like bedrooms or bathrooms, may indicate an infestation.
Ant Nests Outside – Ants typically nest outside near your home, often forming dirt mounds with ants scurrying around them.

You don’t have to tolerate the hassle of ants any longer with our eco-friendly extermination services. At Strib, your pest issue is our top priority. While other companies may entice you with too-good-to-be-true prices, they often provide minimal solutions. Our tailored approach effectively eliminates your ant problem with precision and no gimmicks.

Some types of ant infestations commonly found in Wisconsin include:

As their name suggests, big-headed ants are easily identified by their large heads. They are commonly found under logs, large rocks and concrete slabs, but they will occasionally nest in rotted or termite-damaged wood. When indoors, they often nest in the soil of potted plants.

Just like carpenters, carpenter ants love wood—especially the kind in your house. Carpenter ants prefer to form gallery-like nests in damp or decaying wood, commonly found in windows, sinks, doorframes or hollowed wall spaces of homes. Carpenter ants are one of the most common ants in Wisconsin, identifiable by their rounded thorax and elbowed antenna.

Crazy ants get their name from the way they move, lurching right and left for no apparent reason. They’re black, ⅛ inch long with long legs and antennae. You may find them in outdoor lumber, mulch, firewood or inside walls, beneath carpet and in cozy nooks and crannies. They ruin electronic equipment like televisions, stereo receivers, microwave ovens and computers by causing short circuits.

Pavement ants are brown and grow up to 1/8 inch long. They nest in the soil surrounding driveways, patios, sidewalks, hollow block walls and other concrete slabs.

The Pharaoh ant is yellow and grows up to 1/8 inch long. While preferring to nest in damp bathrooms and kitchens, they will nest in any suitable nook, wall, furniture, or curtain rod or under roof shingles.

Thief ants are golden-yellow to dark brown in color and less than 1/16 inches long. In the home, they are detectable by the trails they leave when foraging for food and water. They nest in wall and baseboard crevices, cabinet nooks and under countertops.

Carpenter Ant Infestation

Carpenter ant extermination is one of the most common pest control services we offer. Eliminating carpenter ants can be challenging without the right training and equipment, as it requires eradicating the entire nest. Simply killing the ants foraging for food doesn’t address the root of the problem.

The two main carpenter ant species are black with bent antennae, growing up to 5/8” in length. Other species can vary in color, ranging from black and reddish to yellowish or dark brown. These ants are especially problematic in older homes with rotting wood, as they thrive in moist environments.

How to Tell if Your Home is Infested with Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants typically nest in tree trunks, limbs, or fallen trees in nature. However, they often invade homes, businesses, and buildings during warmer months, nesting in wood structures such as porches, window frames, and door frames. These ants tend to send out lone explorers, making it difficult to gauge the scale of the infestation.

If you spot carpenter ants in your home or business during late winter and early spring, it may indicate that the nest is located inside the building. If you see them later in the spring and throughout summer, the nest is likely outside, with the ants coming indoors in search of food.
